In the foreseeable future, humans will be ruined as a result of their science. Wicked humans with powerful weapons…anyone can guess what will happen then. – Muditha Champika

This is the end, beautiful friend.  This is the end.  My only friend, the end.  Of our elaborate plans, the end.  Of everything that stands, the end.  No safety or surprise, the end.  I’ll never look into your eyes again. – Jim Morrison

Early man walked away as modern man took control.  Their minds were not the same; to conquer was his goal.  So he built his great empires and he slaughtered his own kind.  He died a confused man — killed himself with his own mind. – Bad Religion

This is the way the world ends.  Not with a bang, but a whimper. – T.S. Eliot

I can see tomorrow.  I can see the world to come.  I can see tomorrow.  Hear the pandemonium. – Killing Joke

  1. Love, turn off the news, please. Just for a spell. I feel like you need to give your mind a rest, and your heart some love. That said, it’s your blog and you got the floor, so do and say and feel whatever the fuck you want… we are always the better for it!

Be clear, the words you quote are poignant… heart-wrenching. So I’m going to be that obnoxious one who has to chime in and say something annoyingly positive, when most likely, positive is the last thing you want to hear. But I’m doing it anyway, because I love you…and I have the floor. 🙂

So, some love…to hopefully sooth your mind and warm your heart.

“Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.

One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.

He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”

The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”

“I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man.

To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.”

Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!”

At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said,
“It made a difference for that one.”

    1. Thank you, Brooke. Beautiful little parable by Eiseley there. The post before this one (“Renunciant”) spoke of the necessity to rise above the chaos. This post was, I suppose, just a kind of exclamation point to that post — or an allusion to the specific reasons that I just can’t involve myself in it or even consider it something worth discussing anymore. It’s just too much and I don’t believe there’s anything to be done about it, nor can I consider myself a part of it. So…to your recommendation that I turn off the news: I have. What information does get through my filter, I will view as nothing more than interesting dispatches from some alien world full of insane creatures.

      1. Shit, I just saw that one… missed it. But I have had to do the exact same thing, which seems to be the trend among most our people. I won’t last long, I fear… he’ll do something so fucking terrible that I won’t be able to keep my head in the sand any longer. i hope not. I just want This fucking nightmare to be over with as few casualties as possible, including hearts and souls…. and I truly miss NPR. In the meantime, I guess I’ll keep looking for starfish.

      2. Yes, I definitely see a trend — maybe even a meaningful synchronicity — among empathetic people at this exact point in time. And that’s, quite simply, that we all need to step back, gather ourselves, relax and be good to ourselves, and hopefully, rejoin the good fight if and when there’s something we can do. The last straw for me was 45’s monstrous inhumanity towards the people of Puerto Rico. With that, he went from being a narcissistic demagogue to an inhuman monster. I’m sure I’ll have a much less dire tone in whatever I post in October (except, of course, for the ongoing zombie tale which I intend to finally finish so that it’s available in its entirety by Halloween).

      3. You said it exactly as I hope it unfolds, and I agree..Puerto Rico..it’s beyond comprehension how someone can be so fucking void of any trace of compassion…and that someone just happens to be the ‘leader of the free world’. It’s terrifying. So you be as dire as needed…jesus, I’m certainly not doing a damn thing to make anyone warm and fuzzy in my posts. But fuck, real is kind of refreshing, no matter how dark or dire it seems…we have enough bullshit to stomach.
I love your Halloween strategy! Please let us know how to best spread your tale!

  2. I think we hear the worst of, fear the worst of it.

The only saving grace I can attest to you is that this week will undoubtedly bring his polling numbers back down after the briefest uptick. Of all the terrible weeks, this was perhaps his worst.

Will it be enough? No. It hasn’t been “enough” yet, and he hasn’t moved from his rotten core a tick from the beginning. I am ashamed I know so many people who back this sick, twisted, demagogic, egomaniacal fuck. I am quite prepared to ditch half my friends, and my entire family, for humanity.

    In the meantime, Carl Reiner:

If he’s with us, it can’t be all bad. 😉
